2022 Wilfandel Scholarship Recipients

In June 2022, we presented our four scholarship recipients at our annual Scholarship and Induction Breakfast Meeting.  The WIlfandel Club gave $12,000 in scholarships and the Scholarship Committee selected four very deserving high school graduates who each receiped $4000.00 along with a crystal trophy.  Each recipient had a chance to present themselves to the members of the WIlfandel Club.  It was a lovely celebration and the WIlfandel Club was honored to give these very deserving students these funds to help them in their first year in college.  Please meet the recipients highlighted below.

 


Jaiden Maxwell St. Cyr –  St. Bernards Class of 2022 
During high school, Jaiden was an honor student and a student athlete while playing on the Freshman, Junior Varsity and finally the Varsity Baseball team.   He received several honors including  being recongnigzed as an Honor student and also received the CIF Academic Achievement Award.  Jaiden held several internships and jobs while in high school incuding working for Moniks Creative Services and was an intern for Young Black Scholars. He also volunteered in several organization including the S.E.E.D Camp.

Taylor Lynette Haywood – Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies (LACES) 2022

Taylor wa a leader on campus serving in Student Government as the Histroiran serving on the Yearbook staff and was an event coordinator and member of the Black Student Union.  She received several achievements including taking first place in UCLA’S Village Nation Social Justice Contest.  She was recognized as a Disney Dreamer and also received a UCLA VIP Scholar Award. She worked in several jobs while in school while also volunterring service hours with several organziations including LACES Campus Beautification Projects.

Matthew Robin Wondwossen Messaye – Harvard-Westlake Class of 2022

During high school Matthew was a leader as CEO of the Leaders United for Change (a tutoring organization on campus), First chair of Alto Saxophone in the Harvard-Westlake music program, and a member of the Harvard-Westlake Robotics Club.  He received several honors including being a finalist for the Posse Foundation, a World Champion of the VEX Robotics competition and was a College Board AP Scholar.  Every summer he worked as a head youth counselor and assistant director for the I DO LOVE MATH CAMP, the Founder and Head tutor of M-Power Tutoring.  He was also a member of Jack and Jill of America LA Chapter and a member of the Harvard-Westlake Black leadership and Culture club.

Samara Rubyanna Holloway – Immaculate Heart High School Class of 2022
Samara was definitely a leader while in high school serving in several student government leadership roles including Sophomore and Junior Class President,  and finally served as Student Body President her senior year. She also received several awards including the California Scholarship Federal award,  the College Board National African American Recognition, the AP CAPSTONE gold seal bearer all while also being a Scholar Athlete for running Cross Country, Track and Soccer.  She was a self Employed tutor and did various volunteering with the Soup Kitchen and the Leeway Group.
